I hope your 2023 is off to a solid start.
I’m a little late getting this edition of Embers out, but I hope the prompts help to provide some sparks for you and your writing in the days and weeks ahead.
Go light some fires!

Write a scene or story about a character blowing something out of proportion.
A character learns about a family secret. How do they find out about it? What do they do? What happens next?
Write a story about the power going out.
Build a suspenseful scene or story that centers on a chase of some sort.
Think about a specific setting and what it’s typically like. For example, a library is normally quiet, while a football stadium is loud and raucous. Write a story in this particular setting, but write about its opposite. So…tell a tale about a rowdy library, a silent stadium — whatever it is you come up with.
Put your wizarding cap on and write a story about a magical object. Maybe create a list of common, everyday objects to begin your brainstorming, then see where your magic pen or paperclip takes you!
The next time you are on a walk or a drive, take note of the abandoned items that have been abandoned on the roadside. (Hopefully there aren’t too many items.) Then, write a story about how this item arrived at this location.
Write a story about moving. Either the character is moving on from something in his/her life, or they are physically moving. Drive the scene forward, and try to reveal the reason for this move, or this “moving on.”
Write a story about the stars or about a stargazer.
Write a story about a shell. A taco shell or a seashell could probably work, but consider using the word in its verb form. Or, write about a person who hides “under their shell” either as a defensive mechanism or as a coping strategy.

Quick question: do you like shorter, snappier prompts, or more descriptive ones? A blend?
Take care, all!
