Blaise watched his wife from the cabana. She was ankle-deep in the Caribbean, collecting seashells—a perfect memory.
When he gulped the thin mountain air, trapped in an icy crevasse, he inhaled her. Hypothermic, somewhere above Camp Four, he'd surely die. But the summer breeze would take him home.
“Inhaling Her” was my first-ever post on Substack. I sent it out on October 27, 2020, to a handful of subscribers.
This is an important story for me because it reflects my journey here on this platform—and my journey writing fiction in general. It has been a long, steady climb up my own metaphorical Everest. At certain moments, I needed to make camp; other times I thought about abandoning the pursuit altogether and making my descent.
I’m thrilled to continue this climb. And I’m even more excited to announce the release date of my first book!
50 Fifties will be released into the wild next Monday, December 11th.
And, as you may have guessed, “Inhaling Her” is the first story in the book.
Thank you, dear reader, for being here.
Special thanks to all who stopped by the fire this past weekend. What an incredible batch of stories and poems! I’m planning on one more “fifties” gathering on Friday, December 22nd.
Take care. I hope you have a wonderful week!
What a journey you have been on in your life and in your writing!!! So proud of you and can't wait to get my copy!!!
1) Kim says it perfectly
2) How can we get copies?
3)What do you think of putiing together an anthology of some of the terrific poems youve helped engender (no pun intended) and inspire? We could call it The Nifty Fifty Represents or the Thrifty Fifty Club. If is too Oldie But Not So Goodie A Too Tame Game, try The Thrifty Fifty Mob.
And here's a holiday jinglesong for you and yours and your students

Through white snowy trees I'm strolling
Towards the end of night soft hills go rolling
Now I can challenge God to a game of bowling
