When Meghan Marlowe turned seven years old, she shared a secret with her parents: she used to explore the stars.
“What do you mean, Meg?” her father asked.
“They called me Captain Azalea…and they told me I was a voyager.”
“Where did you hear that word, sweetie?” Meghan’s mother asked.
“In my dreams. That’s when they talk to me.”
“Who?” her parents asked in unison.
Meghan hesitated. “The others. My people. The ones who left a long time ago and tried to erase all traces of their existence.”
Silence crept in for seconds; it felt like eons.
“They’re from Atlantis.”
Our world contains so many mysteries and existential questions. Past lives, reincarnation, and lost cities are a few random ideas that float around in my head sometimes. I figured I’d try to get them out by writing a 100-word story —hope you enjoyed it!
Wishing you all a happy and healthy 2022,
Justin
Beautiful story, Justin. I love the little girl's alternate name!! Happy New Year!!
I followed your link to this delightful story. Glad I did. One hundred words was exactly enough. Very clever. Reminded me a little of my "Claudia at the Bookshop" story and what happened behind the curtain. I love the idea of other worlds, other dimensions - with no explanation.
