Vaughn had become a human jungle gym. Being a father was a title he wore proudly, yet every now and then the universe sent him subtle reminders of what mattered most.
Vaughn’s daughter, Kira, was an active kid. She climbed him, clung to him, and seemed to be on or around him in some capacity every waking moment of the day.
One evening, Vaughn had to send his boss an important email. He was sitting on the living room floor, phone in hand, while Kira incessantly tried climbing onto his shoulders.
“Would you stop, Kira?” Vaughn said, finally raising his voice. “Why do you always have to do that?”
Without missing a beat, Kira replied, “Because I love you, Daddy.”
Vaughn closed his eyes for a moment and drew in a deep breath. “Well, I love you too.” He smiled, stood up, and set his phone in the other room. These days were numbered.
When he came back into the living room, Kira pounced, knocking him onto his back. The two rolled around in a fit of laughter and twisted limbs.

Yup, those days pass too quickly. But then you get grandkids!
Being a jungle gym for my kids was one of my favorite things!
