Justin, I remember that student well, too. You were the kindest person he knew, and you always gave him the time of day when others gave up on him or put him in an unfair category. I am sure he remembers you. Let's hope that life gave him another chance. He was very lucky to have had that moment with you.

Thank you, Andrea. You know how much those words mean to me! And, in fairness, you were beside me every step of the way! We were the best team. I'm sure he remembers both of us, even if in a small way.

Bet ya a bunch he remembers you. I was my small school's Tre. I remember who cared.

Thanks, Jimmy. That means a lot. Sometimes these random exchanges and moments come back to me out of nowhere. Tre left a huge impact on my life, and I think about him often.

I hope you see him again or find out that he's doing well.

This is a very moving story. (I read Night years ago, and it still haunts me.)

Thank you, Bill. I think haunting is one of the best words to describe Night.

Above all else a teacher is present. That is all you gotta do sometimes man.

Very true, my friend! That is key.

I’ve never heard of Night, but if it’s as bad as Tre’s story, I’m sure I don’t want to. I read Sleepers and felt guilty I was reading something so wrong and horrible…and true!

Thanks for reading, Kim.

Night is Elie Wiesel's account of surviving the concentration camps at Auschwitz-Birkenau. It's truly terrifying and horrific. I just looked up Sleepers and I don't think I'll be picking it up any time soon!

This is heartbreaking, but "Tre's" story is all too common. Wherever he is, I'm glad you, at least, made time and space for him, and hope he found peace and a better life.

It’s so true, Dascha. Many kids suffer the same fate. Thank you for the kind words! Likewise. Wherever he is, I hope he is okay.
