The new name is perfect, Justin. I feel a connection to the Hudson River also. Even living in New Jersey, we were about ten minutes from the Hudson, and we spent many days walking along it, watching the boats and collecting rocks with my dad. I love the Hudson River School painters. Their works could be good illustrations for some of your pieces!
Thank you so much, Andrea! It feels right. I know you have many special memories related to the Hudson as well. I love your idea about the Hudson River School painters! One future story I'd like to write about is the little island near the Norrie Point Marina, so maybe I can find a painting that captures this particular region.
Hope all is well with you! I believe I owe you an email, ha!

I like the new name, Justin! I like microfiction also, and limitations can be inspiring, but there is no need to permanently limit yourself or your writing. When I first started writing, I discovered that I could not limit myself to any genre or niche. I had to be free to write whatever interested me at the moment. Which is why I ended up with "Mark Starlin Writes!" as my newsletter name.
It may not be the best writing career strategy. But if I am honest with myself, writing is a hobby for me. And I am fine with that. Especially at my age. Plus, it's more fun.
I appreciate it, Mark! Couldn’t agree more with what you said. I felt that a change was in order now that I’ve opened the door to different types of writing. I’ve also reached the conclusion that I probably won’t be leaving the day job any time soon. 😂
I love your newsletter name. It leaves the window wide open for you to write whatever you want to write!
A good day job is blessing. It allows you provide for your family and hopefully pursue creative endeavors without the pressure of needing to earn income from them. 🙂
Mark Starlin Writes! was the only thing that fit. 🤣
Thank you, Jason, and so true. I have been thinking about making it happen for a while now, so I’m glad to have finally made the move. I’m looking forward to writing anything that inspires me. 😀
That sounds like a fabulous idea! I’m partial to the Mississippi River myself, so I understand. I was born in Biloxi, raised in Texas, and have seen many places because of my Army tour, yet always loved stories by Twain and others about growing up on or near the muddy waters.
Thank you, Kim. It sounds like you’ve seen a bit of everything! I love stories that take place on or near rivers, especially Twain’s. There’s something rejuvenating about them, even magical.

Exactly. That defines where I’m at right now, and I’m perfectly happy with it.
Haha! Well, it was a great choice! 🤣
Glad to hear it. 🤓
I love the new name! It’s stunning how much power a name has. With one name change, your horizons are broadened!

I believe that too!
Yes you do, but don't worry! We always find a way to get back to each other's news!
What a wonderful background story for your new publication, Justin! I have a feeling you may have "found home."
Aww, thanks so much, Dascha. It does feel that way!
