So touching and so true. Excellent story, Justin. My three daughters are all in their 30s now and it went by in a blink. You have to cherish each stage in there lives. And nurture that bond. Make good memories. Fortunately, my wife was wise beyond her years and made sure I remembered those truths.
Thank you so much, Mark. My daughter is five and my son is three, and it blows my mind that we’re at this point already. I’m lucky in the same sense regarding my wife!
In my view, your very best work! Outstanding ... Mary Astor said "Life without emotions is like an engine without fuel." ... well, my engine is fully fuelled by that heart-tugging writing
A story that should be read by all working fathers (and mothers) - every moment of a child’s life is worth cherishing - nothing is more important.. NOTHING - because all life passes ‘in a blink’.
That’s very kind of you to say, Alixandra. Thank you so much. Knowing my stories reach people who read and enjoy them means the world to me. I appreciate you!
Such an important message. if only parents realized this when their children were young. I liked your use of the "humming" to mark transitions- very clever. These lines really stood out for me: "He opens the creaking office door. Samantha and Jonathon hear it—long for it..." "He just stares at this man—his son." “Daddy, are you done working?” Samantha asks. David finally finds words. “Yes. . . I’m all done.” So much in this short story!
Thank you so much for reading and commenting, Sharron. I always look forward to what you have to say. It means a lot! 🙏 And it really is such an important lesson to learn.
