He fell under her spell.
On the day she made up her mind with him, he walked through the forest alone, shovel in hand. When he came to the place where they met, he began to dig.
“That should be deep enough, my love,” she whispered. He could hear her clearly in his mind. “Good. Now get some rest.”
He set the shovel beside the mound of dirt, then lowered himself down into the earth. He’d lie there on his back for an eternity if it was what she wished.
By nightfall, she returned – blew him a kiss while leaning on the shovel. “Be still…be silent,” she said.
And then she thrust her shovel into the soil.
