I grew up on 5 acres of land in the middle of nowhere. We got more than our fair share of snow, but as a kid it was awesome. I would play in the snow with my sisters for hours. We also had really good sledding hills, so that was always a highlight for us!
I grew up in the middle of nowhere too. I loved it. Nothing beats a good sledding hill! We used to round up the kids in our area and play a game called “sled wars” which amounted to us racing down the hill while trying to wipe each other out. Thankfully no one was ever seriously hurt. 😅
I always seem to forget that you’re originally from western NY. Growing up in Utica, NY, we had our fair share of lake effect snow. But nothing compares to Buffalo! ⛄️ ❄️
We just had our first snow of the season last night. Love it early in winter and around the holidays. Start to loathe it a smidge when it's still hanging around, looking dingy on the side of the road in early April. I'm hoping to take part in this week's 50s by the fire. Can you share the "guidelines" again? For a first timer? 😊
This is my sentiment as well, haha! By March I’m ready to move on, sometimes even before then.
Awesome! I think you’ll enjoy the writing exercise. No problem at all. Here they are: make sure your story is exactly fifty words, write a title/genre in the first line, and finally, the title does not factor into the word count.
We usually only get snow once or twice a year. I love it and am happy it doesn’t stay long. I love that I have the kind of job that when my kids have snow days, I can take a snow day too and play outside n with them
This is excellent, Jonathon! Just so you know I’m going to post the prompt/thread on Friday. If you want to repost your story there you will probably get more eyes on it! 😀
Oh, yes. Our lost ones will be with us forever, won't they. Lovely story. ( I have my Winter pub story all ready for Friday. Fun! ) Where I am from, we are such lacy-pants! If the temperature drops below sixty we begin whining.

When I lived in New York State in Western NY, I loved playing in the snow when I was a kid. My Mom would wonder how I could stay out in it all day since it was so cold. It was fun! We moved to Florida when I was 11 because she didn't like driving in it. She had several incidents where the car would slide on the ice and snow and it got to be too scary.

Tremendous last line!
Thank you so much, Amie!
Snow reminds me of my childhood in Michigan. Playing in the snow on “snow days” (when school got canceled.)
Me too, Mark. I loved snow days growing up. It’s one of the perks of being a teacher, too. The feeling of waking up on a “snow day” never gets old!
Indeed!
I grew up in Buffalo, so many of my childhood memories revolve around snow.

Interesting how the Western New Yorkers tend to find each other.

Looking forward to it! 😊
I like to Watch the snow falling but don’t care much for being in it because I hate being cold!
Fair enough!

Last orders at the Lonely Shepherd, Fiction
When the bell rings, Jimmy McClarty wobbles to his feet, insisting that he’s driving home for Christmas.
“You’ll do no such thing,” you warn him.
Ruddy-cheeked, he waits until you’ve chased out the other stragglers.
You know there’s nobody waiting for him at home.
You’re just the same.
“I’ll drive.”

Aha, thank you! Trust me to not follow instruction well 🫣
I’ll look out for that tomorrow 🙏🏼
Haha, no worries whatsoever!
Loved this!
Thanks, Dascha!
Our parched landscape in N AZ is finally getting snow! Very gentle storms in which the snowfall softens everything. Beautiful is the first snowfall!
It sounds it! And hooray to you for writing a 50! Can’t wait to read it. 😊
I'm working on my "50" for this Friday!

Haha! You crack me up. 🤣
Oooh, exciting! I have a feeling we’ll see some excellent fifties on Friday. Can’t wait to read yours!

Makes sense! I don’t blame anyone who wants to move away from the cold climate of the northeast. Some winters can be brutal!
