I have a message from my dad left on our answering machine twenty years ago. Hard to listen to, but so comforting when I have the courage to do so. What a great story. It brought back this memory. Thank you, Justin.

Oh wow, Andrea, I can see how that would both be hard to listen to and comforting at the same time. Thanks so much for reading! 🙏

Short and bittersweet. It reminds me of of when my answering machine crapped out and I lost my great grandmother's voice. No more, :Good morning Miss Tiff."

This story has stayed with me since I first read it yesterday. The concision of your story magnifies its impact. Voicemail is a great example of what draws me to flash and to poetry.

This provoked a terrifying question: Do I have a recording of my daughter's voice?

It’s not something we typically think about, right?

This is my story, Justin. My Dad passed December 1999, and I called his house for five months just to hear his voice on his answering machine on the land line. When the house sold, I lost his voice. Wish I had recorded it. Great story, thank you!

Lovely! I have a Christmas album my dad made. I listen to it every year. It's like he visits me for Christmas.

Thanks, Dascha. Aww, I’m sure it must feel that way. We just took out our first box of decorations over here.

Wow! You're early off the mark. I haven't even thought that far yet, though I have been working on my Christmas stories.
